Steel and metal products have a wide variety of industrial, commercial and residential uses in today's world. Nearly every modern structure contains at least a steel skeleton. Those that contain mostly cement will always have steel used as a reinforcing mechanism. A drawback to steel for buildings is the issue of weight. While other products like plastic are coming into the construction field, they cannot replace steel outright. They are either not strong enough, or do not offer the same type of protection steel offers when it comes to fires, floods, and earthquakes.

Steel is completely recyclable, is highly durable, and steel also requires low amounts of energy during its production cycle. With the advent of lightweight steel products, commercial uses such as automobile manufacturing and homebuilders have benefited from these new lightweight steel building material products.
